Built-in Grid Limiter

When grid-tied systems generate more power from the solar panels than what is required by the appliances in your home or business, the excess power can flow back through your electricity meter to the national electricity grid which is not allowed

Grid Limiting / Active Power Limitation decreases the output from the solar panels to match the consumption of your appliances. This ensures that no power flows back to the grid

Monitoring and ease of configuration

Through the new and updated User Interface on the built-in touch LCD display and online portal you can get access to:

  • All required settings (password protected)
  • Daily / Monthly energy generated and Consumed
  • Real-time system information
  • Battery status and usage

Sunsynk also offers Wi-Fi and GSM communication devices that allow remote monitoring via a cell phone app.

Smart Load

Smart load is a method of making grid-tied systems with grid limiting more efficient. Instead of losing out on potential generation from your panels because of grid limiting, the smart load function allows you to power appliances, that are not connected to your battery bank, directly from the solar panels

In short, once the battery is full and all loads connected to the inverter are supplied, electricity will flow from the solar panels to loads such as geysers, large air-conditioning units or pumps.

Only once these have been supplied will the system be throttled meaning that more of you solar power can be consumed.

Time of use charging / Peak shaving

Some electricity suppliers provide electricity at different tariffs at different times during the day. This is mainly to discourage electricity usage in peak times when the grid is under more pressure. Special Smart electricity meters administrate this.

There are many ways to save if you are billed on a Time of Use structure which includes:

  • Geyser timers to heat up water when electricity is cheaper
  • Adjusting your consumption habits to cook and heat areas when the tariffs are lower
  • Using the Sunsynk’s Time of Use functionality to charge the batteries when electricity is cheaper and then using the stored energy when electricity is more expensive

The Sunsynk inverter boasts a transfer time of <10 milliseconds.  This makes it the ideal piece of equipment for any Uninterruptible Power Supply.

The IP65 rating is weather proof, meaning it can protect from total dust ingress and low pressure water jets from any angle allowing you to install the inverter outside with complete peace of mind.

The Sunsynk inverter has a programmable port which can be used either as an input for a generator, wind turbine or microinverters or as a secondary output to supply a smart load once the batteries have been fully loaded.  This allows for more optimal use of the available solar energy and the integration of several diverse energy sources.

Because the Sunsynk is a True Hybrid inverter, you can start your system off really small and build your capacity and functionality as your needs change.  You can, for example, start without batteries to save on your electricity bill like with a Grid Tied system and simply add batteries when you are ready to create a Hybrid or off-grid system.  On the other hand you can start without panels to create a backup or UPS system and add panels when you want to decrease your reliance on the electricity grid.

Sunsynk offers CANBus communication for effectively charging and maintaining Lithium batteries.  It is compatible with most leading Lithium battery brands.  For Lead Acid batteries (AGM, Gel, Flooded) the Sunsynk offers adjustable charging based on battery voltage and capacity to ensure that you get good life expectancy from your batteries.

The Sunsynk complies with the South African grid code as described in NRS097-2-1: 2017 Edition 2.  It has also been added to the City of Cape Town list of approved inverters.

By adding either a Wi-Fi or GSM communication device, the system can be monitored both online and on a mobile app.

For accredited and trained installers the programming of the unit can be performed easily on the touch-based LCD display without the need for specialised software or communication devices.

All Sunsynk inverters can operate continuously at 97.6% its rated capacity and handle a peak of double the rated power for 10 seconds

The built in MPPTs offers an operating voltage of 125V–425V which means that as few as four 72 cell solar panels can start the inverter and supply power to the loads and the battery.  This can be expanded easily and at any time.
